Feng Shui Your Kitchen

The kitchen is the heart of the house. That's why so many parties end up there. To create and maintain good feng shui in the kitchen will affect all areas of your life -- your health, your finances, your career and your relationships. Here are a few ways to improve the feng shui of your kitchen.

1) Keep reds to a minimum. This is not to say there should not be any red in the kitchen, but think hard before you go with a color scheme that's heavy on the reds. With so much fire element in the kitchen already from the stove and the microwave, adding too much more will create an imbalance.

2) Balance fire and water. The element of fire, represented by the stove, and the element of water, represented by the sink, counteract each other. If they are next to each other they will minimize the other's influence, but if they are directly across from each other, they will "fight". To cure this, put the wood element between them, thus creating the very positive natural cycle of water-wood-fire. The "wood" can be a wooden cutting board, but a live plant is better. Wood can also be a green rug, or a green storage container, or even a green dishrag.

3) Cook from the command position. The command position faces the primary entrance to the room. Unfortunately, most kitchens are designed so that your back is facing this entrance when you are cooking. In feng shui, this means you feel a little vulnerable and ill at ease. To cure this problem put a mirror over your stove so you can see when someone comes in the room. If you can angle the mirror so the burners on the stove are visible in the mirror, you will have symbolically doubled your food and in feng shui symbolism, doubled your money.

4) Empty any pots with water in them on the stove when you are done with them. People who tend to keep a filled kettle at the ready can make some improvements here.

5) Reduce clutter. This especially applies to everything "stored" under the cabinets. If your counters tend to get filled with things, that's another source of clutter to control.

6) Clean. In feng shui, clean surfaces let chi, or energy, move around better. When was the last time you cleaned under your refrigerator, or cleaned the top of the cabinets, or cleaned the fronts of your cabinets? Having a clean stove top and a clean sink is just the beginning of a truly spotless kitchen.

7) Store cleaning materials away from food. Keeping cleansers and food together symbolizes cleaning out your good health, or sterility, so assign one cabinet for cleaning materials and keep the food out of there.

8) Energize. A fountain, so long as it is away from the stove, is good for a kitchen. So are wind chimes, colorful pottery and cookware, and anything that makes you feel good. Of course, good lighting is extremely important, too. If you can't afford to put in a skylight, at least invest in good full-spectrum light bulbs.

8 Ideas For Leftovers

After housing, food is the next largest expense for most families, so it is inevitable that any penny-pinching strategy has to make good use of leftovers. Besides, if you went to all the effort of buying and cooking the food the first time, why not take an extra few minutes to make it into dinner again? Most leftovers recipes are quick, and with just a few general ideas you will find there are at least three different things you could make in a snap that your family will actually like. Here's a list of classic dishes to get your ideas simmering.

Calzones

This is what Italians do with their leftovers. Now, we just thaw the calzone dough, stuff if with whatever is on hand, and bake for about 20 minutes. You can also make a few extra calzones for reheating for up to four days later. And they make for great at-your-desk lunches. Finally, calzones are wonderful if you have an odd combination of ingredients that will not fit into a full recipe. Use that lingering half cup of spinach in one calzone, and that spare chicken breast across two others.

Casseroles

Another easy way to clear the fridge. Just boil some noodles, throw in a can of creamed soup (without the water, please) and then toss in whatever is left. This is a great way to dispatch up to two pounds of Thanksgiving turkey, and you can definitely add one or two bags of frozen vegetables that need to be rotated.

Chili

This is especially good for extra meat. Turkey will work, as will leftover hamburger, steak, and even ham. Depending on how hot the chili sauce is, this dish can be an excellent way to use up bland or dry meat. Those jalapenos can cover up all sorts of culinary sins.

Freezer

OK, so this is not a real recipe, but any discussion of leftovers must include the next best option. If you don't have time to cook it, freeze it. Sometime in mid to late December you will want to eat turkey again. Make sure you squeeze all the air out of the items you freeze to avoid the dreaded freezer burn.

Lasagna

Another brilliant Italian device for using up food. Lasagna can be way more than the standard meat sauce, cheese and noodles. Extra mushrooms are a welcome addition, as is any onhand meat. Zucchini and squashes can be used up, too. And remember, your leftover lasagna dish does not need to feed four people - if there is enough for even a small bowl, that feeds one person a very nice lunch.

Meatloaf

The American brilliant idea for using up food. Ask your mother for her recipe.

Omelets

Kind of like calzones, but lighter and with eggs. Lingering vegetables are a great addition to omelets, as are all those 1-2 tablespoon portions of different cheeses from your last party. This another great dish for using up very small portions - even a quarter cup of ingredient is plenty for one omelet.

Pasta

Another great use for vegetables and leftover meats. This is a great way to use up salmon and other fish dishes. You can even use nuts in pasta. If you are worried it might be too bland, add some spicy sausage or a light cream sauce, or keep it simple and use the kind of pesto sauce that just squeezes out of the tube.

Electrolux Washing Machines - Why You Should Have One

In the competitive market of various home appliances, Electrolux washing machines does not station itself at the bottom of the list. In fact, this is one of the more popular brands trusted by thousands of users across the globe. With the best features that come with every unit, costumers are assured of quality.

The company, which developed Electrolux washing machines, is known also to develop other quality appliances. What is unifying about all its products though is the fact that for every item created, problems and situations which will be encountered by the users in real life is the basis for the design of every item.

In this manner, one can expect that future troubles be kept in mind prior to the creation of the product. Because of this feature, one can be assured that appliances created by this company will be able to address future issues.

What is also enticing about Electrolux washing machines is the fact that the designs and accompanying features are relatively new and very efficient. For instance, units, which are not so heavy yet have the capacity to work on heavier loads, are available.

And you need not worry about whether you exceeded the unit's capacity and perhaps have overworked your unit since it comes with a built-in load sensor telling you that the load is enough.

Other designs such as Libra come with an intelligent wash resuming feature, which allows users to curtail washing anytime when necessary, and the unit will automatically return to where it stopped. No need to reset or to start all over again.

Another feature that would catch your attention comes from a small but large load capacity machine, Fabricglow. Those who are often worrying about the infestation of rats in their units would surely love this design as it has a rat mesh that will surely protect your unit or trap potential intruders which may threaten your machine.

Unfortunately though compared to other models available in the market created by other companies, the prices for the models are often higher than competitors. Rather than looking at this aspect as something to be disheartening, you have to think of the good features you will be getting with the purchase of the unit. Although it may appear that you have to start with a large capital outlay, the savings that you will be getting especially on operating costs as well as the amount of water and soap, might help you eradicate doubts on investing in Electrolux washing machines.

How to Keep Your Espresso Machine Running Smoothly

A home espresso machine is a wonderful thing, but it does require maintenance and care. If you want to get the longest life out of your investment, it is imperative to give attention to your espresso machine to keep your brew tasting fresh and delicious.

One of the biggest enemies of your home espresso machine is scale buildup, which is a buildup of minerals. Oftentimes, lime scale can build up inside your espresso machine, and it will affect how it functions. This scale will most often affect the boiler of your machine, and the mineral buildup will directly influence the taste of your coffee and espresso. If you do live in an area that has hard water, you need to descale your machine regularly, at least every 2 to 3 months. How often you descale your machine does depend on the hardness of the water that you use, how often that your machine is used, and how often water is left sitting in your espresso machine for long periods of time.

To begin descaling your machine, you need to turn it off and allow it to completely cool down. If you are working with a hot espresso machine, it can become dangerous, and it can also negate the effectiveness of the descaling product that you are using. Many people will descale their espresso machines with vinegar, but that is overall not a good product to use for the interior of your espresso maker. You can make your own solution of lemons and water, and there are also commercial solutions available for purchase to descale your machine. Some popular descaling solution brand names are CLR and Saeco. Many premium espresso machine manufacturers will also sell their own brand of a descaling product, which may be ideal for the brand of machine that you have.

To begin with, pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir of the machine. Turn on your machine, and allow water to pump through the steam nozzle for up to 30 seconds. Turn the machine off completely, and allow it to cool down with the descaling solution in the parts of the machine that hold water. Allow this solution to soak within the machine for up to 10 minutes, and turn the machine on again to pump the solution through for 60 seconds. After that, turn off the machine completely.

You can repeat this process up to five times, which will take around an hour. It is important to remember that this solution can leave a bitter taste in your machine, so you do need to rinse out the water reservoir completely and refill it. Finish this process by running clean and fresh water through the espresso machine up to three times.

Last of all, make a shot of espresso or pot of coffee, and throw it away completely because it could still have traces of descaling solution. Afterward, all you have to do is enjoy a fresh espresso product that is free from any taste of mineral buildup!

Another popular accessory for coffee is the commercial coffee maker! For a great selection, check out Mark Ramos' website, The Coffee Bump.

Amana Refrigerators - A Wide Array of Shapes and Sizes

Most of the Amana refrigerators have a depth of between twenty-three inches and twenty-seven inches. Homeowners choose these units as they blend into any kitchen design. There will be no need for complex processes for installation when you purchase one. Most of the deep units feature French style doors, and these are basically a combination of a freezer design on the bottom and a side-by-side door.

The models that feature French doors are known for the built-in ice and water dispensers. These features can be found in the interior of the unit or it may be in the door. Both of the styles of dispensers are available in some models of refrigerator. The shallow depth Amana refrigerators are very often confused with the built-in ones. These have a large height and also a large width.

Some feature energy star ratings and show what power consumption the appliance uses. Some of the refrigerators are more expensive than others therefore it is important to look around at what is available prior to actually purchasing one of the models. The range of Amana refrigerators also features some products that are environmentally friendly; therefore, regardless of what you are looking for there will be something suitable within this range.

Choosing the correct refrigerator will depend on your individual requirements. It can be difficult selecting the most appropriate appliance, as there is a vast amount of different models to choose from. It is very important to invest wisely when you purchase one of the Amana refrigerators. It is important to look at what is available for your storage requirements and budget, as this will make it slightly easier.

Unlike the free standing units the shallow refrigerators are designed to be mounted onto cabinets. If you are short on space in your kitchen then it is important to remember that the Amana refrigerators come in a wide array of shapes and sizes and this includes some compact ones. The sizes range from dorm sized refrigerators to apartment sized refrigerators. There are some products that are recommended for offices, boarding rooms and also games rooms. These small refrigerators are ideal if you only want to store a couple of items in them.

One of the most popular brands is the Amana compact refrigerator. From time to time you could suffer from operational problems. Repair methods may vary from one model to another therefore it is important to understand the basic concepts of how the refrigerator system actually works. It is also a very good idea to become familiar with the dealers that sell the replacement parts for refrigerator models. Knowing who stocks the parts for your appliance will make it easier to source the parts when you require them.

How to Make Your Own High Efficiency Refrigerator

Using high efficiency technology and making a few simple lifestyle changes can have a large impact on your daily energy use and make living off the grid much more feasible. One of the technological improvements I have made that I am most happy with is my home modified high efficiency refrigerator. This refrigerator has been my only refrigerator for 4 years and has operated flawlessly with extremely low power consumption. In this article, I will outline my reasons for the change and explain how to make the conversion so you can try it out yourself.

My motivation to experiment with a new refrigeration strategy came from my experience with my old refrigerator. It was a fairly common style of stand up refrigerator with a freezer section on the top third and it consumed an outrageous total of 5-6kwh a day! The major flaw of the common refrigerator is that the doors are located on the side. A proper design should take into account the fact that cold air is more dense that the rest of the air in your house and will drop in height when given the chance. Well, the cold air in your refrigerator gets that chance every time you open the door. As you gaze inside to select your next meal, all of the cold air rushes out by your feet and is replaced by warmer air from your living space that will now need to be cooled. Also, the magnetic door seals, no matter how air tight when they are new, will inevitably develop imperfections and allow the cooled air to seep through constantly.

An efficient refrigerator design must start with a well insulated chest style container. If you don't want to build your own, you're in luck because any chest freezer will work wonderfully. Cool air from within the unit will not leak because the door is located on the top. Also, each time you open the refrigerator to grab something to eat the cool air will stay inside and will not need to be recooled as soon as you shut the door.

The obvious problem with using a chest freezer as your refrigerator is that its thermostat is set for a temperature range far to low. To solve this problem, it is necessary to setup another circuit with a thermostat and relay switch to make sure the temperature stays at about 4 degrees Celsius. Basically, this circuit must turn on the freezer compressor when the temperature rises above 4 C and turn off when the temperature drops below 4 C. The simplest option would be to find a cooling line voltage thermostat with a range of 0 - 10 C but I couldn't find one so I had to use a regular heating thermostat with a range of about 0-30 C. If I set this heating thermostat at 4 C and hooked it up to my chest freezer, it would turn on the freezer when the temperature dropped below 4 C and this would only make it colder or if the temperature was above 4 C the thermostat would never turn on the freezer! More research was needed to solve this problem.

The solution I found was the SPDT relay switch. An SPDT relay uses the electromagnetic force of a coil to control a switch in another circuit and this relay allowed me to use a heating thermostat to correctly control freezer compressor. When the heating thermostat reads a temperature of 3 C it will close its circuit and this will allow current through the relay coil and flip the switch to the off position. When the heating thermostat reads a temperature of 5 C, it will open its circuit and this will stop the current through the relay coil and close the other circuit thereby turning on the freezer compressor.

In order to get wires to the new thermostat inside the refrigerator, I opened up the drain plug at the bottom corner of the unit. The hole is taped shut with duct tape inside. The relay switch is just tucked away between the wall and the refrigerator for now. I'll build a nice circuit box for it at some point.

I can keep all of the same foods in this chest refrigerator but the organization has changed because the door is on the top. I found two Rubbermaid bins that fit the large storage area quite well. I stack one on top of the other and just pull out the top one when I want to get at stuff in the bottom. I thought this process might get annoying but I found that I rarely have to do this if I just put my long term storage items in the bottom container and all of my daily used items in the top container.

Since the main reason for this project was energy conservation I should fill you in on the performance of this chest refrigerator. I plugged my energy metre into this unit for a few days and found that it used about 200wh a day on average. That's only 2 cents a day of electricity and a huge drop from my former energy sucking model that used 5-6 kwh a day. The most efficient refrigerators you can buy new today use around 1 kwh a day and this design uses only one fifth of that!

This difference in power consumption only means a few dollars a year on my power bill if you are already hooked up to the grid but if you consider buying solar panels to power your household technology then this difference in energy consumption means spending thousands of dollars less on solar panels so the simple change to a chest refrigerator makes living off the grid much more viable.

Practically Off the Grid is dedicated to the sharing of information and ideas for off grid living. The website includes practical tips on many subjects and documents a number of do-it-yourself projects. All About Energy Star Bottom Freezer Refrigerators

It used to be that the only kind of refrigerator you could get had a full sized door and had a freezer on the top. Now there is a much more convenient type of refrigerator - the bottom freezer refrigerator. The best versions of this refrigerator are the energy star bottom freezer refrigerators, since these also save you money on your energy bill by using 15 to 50 percent less energy than other refrigerators.

The reason many people like the energy star bottom freezer refrigerator design is that most people go looking in the refrigerator for things much more often than they get things out of the freezer. Putting the freezer underneath the refrigerator instead of the other way around puts all the things they most commonly reach for at a very convenient height. This limits the amount of time people spend bending down to get things out of the refrigerator.

Amana, Blomberg, Bosch, Dacor, GE, General Electric, Haeir, Hotpoint, Jenn-Air, Kenmore, KitchenAid, LG Electronics, Liebherr, Maytag, Miele, Profile, Samsung, Siemens, Sub-Zero, Inc., Summit, Thermadoor, and Whirlpool all have options for those interested in this type of freezer-refrigerator. The more commonly known major brands have more choices in this type of refrigerator than most of the smaller or lesser known companies mentioned above, but all are worth looking into if you want to find the perfect refrigerator for you.

These refrigerators usually cost between $800 and $3,000, depending on the brand and style of appliance you choose. For those who want to get really fancy there is the KitchenAid 20.5 Cubic Feet Architect Series II Built-In Bottom Mount Refrigerator in Stainless Steel, which costs over $6,000. One of the most affordable options is the GE 20.3 Cubic Feet model in Bisque, Black or White for about $850. As you can see, there are options for most any price range with this type of refrigerator-freezer , with the majority of these refrigerators falling in the $1,000 to $2,000 price range.

You can find most of the options you are looking for when you go shopping for this type of kitchen appliance. You can get full doors, French doors, or armoire style refrigerators. You can get an energy-efficient refrigerator model with a water and ice dispenser in the door. There are a variety of colors available as well, with the most common being stainless steel, black, and white, though biscuit, bisque, platinum, and stainless look colors are also available.

It is important also to keep in mind that most of the major distributors/resellers of these types of appliances have yearly, seasonal sales - in many parts of the country, this occurs during the winter months - so keep in mind that if you can afford to 'wait' for a few months, you can take advantage of further deep discounting. If you know that your existing refrigerator is soon to go out, do what you can to keep it going until one of these major sales comes to a store in your area.

Basic Dishwasher Installation Tips

Installing a built-in dishwasher requires basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills, so the average handy person can install a dishwasher in 1 to 3 hours depending on if it is a new installation or a replacement dishwasher. If you are replacing an existing dishwasher, it will take less time.

New Installation

1. Prepare the cabinet area in which the dishwasher will be installed. The opening should be 24 inches wide for most models, 24 inches deep and 34 1/2" from the floor to the underside of the countertop. The back wall can not have pipes or wires on it. The power and water supply lines will come into the cabinet in the 4"X4" area at the bottom back of the cabinet through a 1 1/2" hole. Make sure the floor is level and the cabinet is squared.

2. Choose your drain method based on your local codes and height of the drain tee. Some codes require an air gap. If the drain tee is less than 18 inches from the floor, you must use an air gap. If an air gap is not required and the tee is over 18 inches from the floor, you can use the loop method for the drain connection. If the drain hose will be connected to a garbage disposal, you have to remove the knock out plug so that the dishwasher will drain.

3. Inspect or install wiring by making sure there is a 120V, 60Hz dedicated circuit with a 15 or 20-amp breaker or time delay fuse. Wiring has to be 2 wire with a ground and rated for 75 degrees Celcius or 176 degrees Farenheit. The wiring can come into the cabinet from either side in the rear bottom area. The hole should be a maximum of 1 1/2", and it can be the same hole used the the water supply line and drain hose if its being hardwired. If it is a flexible power cord, it must have a separate hole. Hardwiring cable will come up the right side along the bottom 24 inches of the cabinet to the right front electrical connection on the dishwasher.

4. Prepare the water supply line that enters through the 1 1/2" hole in the rear bottom of the cabinet. Turn off the water to install a hand shut-off valve under the sink. The water connection is on the left side of the dishwasher. Use 3/8" O.D. copper line to extend a minimum of 19 inches from the rear wall. The water heater should be set between 120 and 150 degrees (closer to 120 if children are in the home to prevent scalding accidents) and the pressure should be between 20-120 PSI.

5. Prepare the dishwasher by checking the door balance and adjusting the spring tension if necessary. If the legs have to be attached, do that close to where it will be installed.

6. Connect the drain hose to the dishwasher's drain port if it did not come factory-installed. Position the electrical wiring and water supply lines so that the base of the dishwasher will not catch them. Slide the dishwasher in front of the opening so that you can feed the drain hose through the hole you drilled for it.

7. Inch-by-inch slide the dishwasher into the cabinet as you fee the drain hose through its hole. Stop with a few inches left and make sure nothing is kinked or pinched. If all is in good order, push the dishwasher all the way in so that the edges of the door are behind the cabinet frame. Test the door for smooth opening and closing.

8. Level the dishwasher front to back and side to side by adjusting the leveling legs.

9. Align the brackets and secure the dishwasher to the countertop according the manufacturer's instructions.

10. Through the access panel, connect the water supply line and electrical supply. Also connect the drain hose under the sink. You are ready to do a wet test with the "rinse only"
cycle. Check for leaks and proper draining.

Replacing an Existing Dishwasher

You will not need to drill the holes since they will already be there from the existing dishwasher. However, you do need to inspect the wiring and plumbing to make sure they are capable of servicing the new dishwasher. Once that is established you should turn the power off at the main and turn the water supply off before beginning the removal of the old dishwasher. All lines and wires must first be disconnected. Take the drain hose off the garbage disposal or drain pipe under the sink. If the dishwasher has a power cord, you need to unplug it. If the dishwasher is hardwired, you have to open the access panel and electrical junction box. Remove the wire nuts and disconnect the black and white wires. Also remove the ground screw to disconnect the green ground wire. Use a catch pan while disconnecting the water supply line. Once all of these lines and wires have been disconnected, you can take out the screws and brackets that hold the dishwasher in its place and carefully pull out the old dishwasher.

Then follow the same procedures to install the new dishwasher with the exception of drilling the holes and running the wiring and water supply lines.

Once you have installed your new dishwasher and tested it for leaks, you are ready to start cleaning.

What to Look For in Compact Washers & Dryers

The world is getting more and more crowded with people in the larger cities around the world. Australia's population has tripled in just my lifetime which is pretty scary really. No wonder I have moved myself and my cat back into a regional country area.

In 1935 Australia's population was just over 7 million. Today in 2010 the population is just over 21 million and growing faster than may be sustainable for such a dry country; but we all must depend on our Scientists to advise ways to manage water, energy and housing so we can accept more new Australians. Water, housing and sufficient energy resources are three prime concerns for most Australians today.

This need for water and energy efficient appliances has never been more urgent if we are to maintain our current standard of living. Australia has just seen the end of a ten year drought that brought many of our primary producers to bankruptcy and some (too many) to suicide.

As is quite common, it rains at the end of long, dry spells and true to Australia's history, the rains brought devastating floods that killed a lot of livestock which had been expensively nurtured through the long drought to form the beginnings again of breeding herds. But regardless of these losses, the deluge of water into our inland river systems is the stuff millions of country people have prayed for during the past ten years and there are no complaints. Dorothea McKellar said it best in the lines of her poem "I love a Sunburnt Country" when she said...."of droughts and flooding rains".

The unknown but now frequently asked question is "When will the next drought come?" Because as sure as God made little green apples, it will come again.

The only bit of difference we have very slowly learnt, is that we all must use water and energy efficient household appliances. This means using washers (or washing machines as we call them here in Australia) with the option to recycle the water each wash cycle; and if we can't hang washing outside on a clothes line to dry and absolutely have to use a dryer, to make it as energy efficient as possible for as short a time as possible. If purchasing a new one, always check the energy rating by the number of stars each appliance has been given.

Housing today in our cities and even in some of our larger regional towns has been designed as high to medium density. This means the house / units are being built smaller and more compact which means the rooms inside are also smaller. As the laundry room is a room that is only used once or twice a week, then it is designed to be small. This means that if a family wants to have a washer and a dryer in a small space, it needs to be very compact.

If a family is renting a property and moves occasionally, then a small washer and dryer will be necessary because the laundry sizes vary considerably from property to property and a compact washer and dryer will always fit in.

A compact washer and dryer will fit into most rented properties. For more information on what to look for go to http://www.compactwasherdryer.org today

Executive Air Charter on Private Jets

Private jet charter sells thanks to VIP interiors.

To sell executive air charter to the businessman, business jets for air charter London and South East England invariably boast good interior design. Can luxury and creativity coexist comfortably with compact functionality and safety? When you examine the interior designs of business jets, you have to say yes.

For a total price of not far shy of $100 million a recently designed interior for a privately owned long-range Boeing Business Jet 2 had several design priorities. The aircraft was for the businessman's wife, so he wanted it to reflect her contemporary tastes and give her true VIP comfort with a feel-at-home environment. He also wanted the plane to be able to travel from London to San Francisco, or Mumbai to New York nonstop, so weight had to be controlled in order to give the aircraft that kind of range. He also requested the decibel level to top out at 50 in the cabin, and he asked for the design to include a dedicated dining/conference area, a family/living area, a private salon/library, and a master bathroom and lavatory.

It has a "flexible" dining room table made of a sturdy, clear polycarbonate material. At the "high" setting, it's a dining table. At its "low" setting, it doubles as a coffee table, creating a second living area. And for overnight flights, the table leaves fold in and down, providing a support base for an extra mattress that turns the two divans and table into one large bed. Satin nickel pocket doors, engraved with anodized blue designs, separate the galley/crew quarters from the main cabin and also give passengers the option of opening up or closing off the master bedroom, private salon, the main living and dining areas from one another.

A true residential feel in the cabin is achieved by setting most of the furniture away from the aircraft fuselage walls and using area carpets secured to a high-gloss teak-holly wood floor that was treated to be slip-resistant, instead of the more traditional wall-to-wall carpeting.

He also incorporated custom wood-slat Venetian blind window coverings to give the cabin a warmer look. The blinds can be raised, lowered, opened and closed via remote control. The table lamps, which add to the residential ambiance, are "carry-on" options, but are attached to the Zebra-wood-veneer side cabinets in the main cabin.

Lounge chairs, for example, are not certified for takeoff or landing, but the two-seat divan in the salon is (all told, the aircraft is configured for 20 passengers). In the master bedroom, the monitor can be recessed into the storage cabinet at the foot of the bed, and the mirror at the far end of the room is part of a built-in vanity.

Private jets, when privately owned, will have to serve both business and personal use.

Upgraded cabin entertainment systems have to offer more communication, music, and video options.

Owners expect business jets to reflect their personal style, yet be appealing for charter customers, as well.

Electronics and cabin entertainment options, including in-seat, touch screen control of all cabin functions (from the audio/ visual system and lighting to temperature selections); two-channel XM Radio, real-time text news updates from sources such as CNN, Bloomberg, BBC, and SportsTicker displayed on two independent, 15-inch cabin monitors; in-seat audio/visual docking stations for iPods and other personal entertainment devices; and even a forward-mounted nose camera to allow passengers a pilot's-eye view of take-offs and landings on the cabin monitors. Today's clients will chose to hard-wire the aircraft for Aircell wireless internet accessibility.

Ability to connect laptops and devices to the cabin's high-resolution audio/visual system has a positive business impact as well, turning flights into far more productive work and meeting time when he travels with business associates.

Air charter companies.

Often the client is not an individual or a couple, but board members of air charter firms ordering to compliment a high-end fleet of VIP charter aircraft.

Cabins have to include comfortable sleeping, conference and social areas for both VIP and corporate travellers.

Full-flat reclining seats for 12 people. A large galley in the rear, with a full-size oven, microwave, refrigerator, and custom storage facilities for the glassware and dishes.

Fashion and corporate jet design.

Haute couture meets high-flying private jet style. Today, the movement toward bold-face name designer interiors is spreading. In April 2006, TAG Aircraft Interiors announced a partnership with the Italian fashion house of Gianni Versace to create custom aircraft furnishings and design. A year later, Italian helicopter manufacturer Agusta Westland announced it, too, had teamed with Versace to create a line of high-end helicopter interior designs. Not to be outdone, Eurocopter announced that it, too, had a designer in the house, having teamed with Hermès to create a line of custom interiors for its EC 135 helicopter.

In some ways, the movement of fashion design houses into the exclusive world of private jet interior design is an obvious evolution. People who purchase private jets are typically discriminating customers who value both quality and unique aesthetics, and the move makes perfect sense.

Jet completion centres are doing a roaring trade.

Energy Inspections and Audits

Part 1: Save On Your Heating and Cooling Bills

What are energy audits and inspections? An energy inspection or audit is designed to assess various aspects of a property, in order to save the customer money on the household energy bill. The efficiency of appliances, mechanical systems, the structure's envelope and the home's orientation are evaluated to design the best plan for creating a more energy efficient home. Audits are typically more comprehensive as they incorporate infrared technology, a blower door test and computer analysis, in order to accurately pinpoint problem areas in a home. Short and/or long term plans can be designed. The use of the client's yearly energy bill is helpful in creating such a plan.

Household appliances and fixtures are assessed by examining their input/output ratio. Typically, Energy Star upgrades are recommended where appropriate (an upgrade can reduce energy usage by 40%) and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs-these convert about 20% of the electricity flowing through them to light vs. the 5% that incandescent bulbs convert). These decisions are based on the short and long term needs of the homeowner. In addition, the mechanical systems such as the heating/cooling, ventilation and thermostat are also assessed.

One of the most important concerns of the energy inspection or audit is to assess the structure's envelope. This refers to the barrier between the interior and exterior environment. The quality of the structure and its ability to maintain temperature efficiently and regulate moisture and air flow are key areas of concern. The energy audit includes inspection of the foundation, roof, walls, doors and windows. The specific condition of the components and the types of materials used is assessed as related to air leakage and to determine the R-factor of these components. (The R-factor refers to the component's thermal resistance.). Recommendations are then made as to how to improve on the quality of the envelope's components. These recommendations could include adding insulation, energy efficient windows, sealing doors and windows, insulating the hot water heater and water lines, and sealing and insulating ducts transporting hot and cold air.

Typically, the results of the inspection or audit include a report of the findings as well as recommendations on how to improve the energy efficiency of the home. Reports generated by an audit normally include infrared photos which document the report findings. Short and long term recommendations are made and yearly follow-up assessments scheduled according to the homeowner's needs.

Part II

What Can You Do Right Away?

It's important to consider that making your home more energy efficient can save you money. Many utility companies provide incentives to customers for energy efficiency. In the USA, homes use about 20% of the total energy. Of this amount, heating and cooling your home uses about 44%, lighting and appliances about 33%, water heating 14%, and refrigerators about 9%. All in all, your energy efficiency should be at least 30-40% above the local building codes.

Right away you can take care of any obvious leaks with sealant and insulation. Then, use smoke on a windy day to locate the smaller leaks that are not easy to find. If you are modifying the insulation in your ceilings or attic, for example, you should aim to raise the R-factor to R-50 or R-60, despite the minimum required by local building codes.

Survey your windows. If there are obvious areas of leakage or they are not airtight because they are old, single pane or have aluminum or steel frames, then you should consider making some changes. The cheapest method is to add storm windows or to install Plexiglas along the inside of the windows. Plexiglas is a lot cheaper than glass and also conducts heat more slowly than glass

Don't forget about all those appliances and electronic devices that use electricity even when they are not in use. Theses phantom loads waste a significant amount of electricity. You can plug them into a power strip and then turn off the power strip, when they are not in use.

The Parts That Make a Whirlpool Refrigerator Work

Whirlpool Refrigerator Parts and how they really work.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Parts are  very vital to keeping steady temperatures and keeping your food fresh and cold. Many people think that the main part, which is the compressor, just runs to put cold air into the box.The fact is, refrigeration is actually removing the heat that is in the box.

As always make sure the refrigerator is plugged in to maintain the electricity flow. On most refrigerators the first thing that has to be satisfied is called the cold control. The cold control acts as a thermostat and tells the compressor and other parts to run. When the control is satisfied at desired temperature it shuts off the compressor and fans.

So the refrigerator parts are running and the compressor is doing its job (taking out the HOT air) in the box and compressing it with freon to make it colder. Now your thinking where is the hot air coming from and where does it go? Well when the Refrigerator is opened and shut alot with a bigger family or you have bad parts allowing hot air in i.e bad gaskets or doors, or air from outside the box gets in the refrigerator it trips the cold control.

So the hot air is compressed and released out the condenser coils. The condenser fan blows across the coils and the compressor keeping them cool to maintain the performance of the refrigerator. HELPFUL TIP - the fan draws in dust, animal dander, and other things around the house and clogs up the condenser restricting the hot air flow and will decrease the performance of cooling.

The fresh food section then gets the cold air from the evaporator fan that blows across the cold and frosty evaporator. This air is directed down through a small chute or hole into the refrigerator.

Now that we have learned how the refrigerator gets cold air and the parts that maintain the coolness work, lets talk about the defrost cycle. There are 3 parts in the defrost cycle.

1) The defrost timer always runs and should shut down the cooling process of the refrigerator to defrost the frost and ice formed by the freon pump in through the evaporator coils. the timer cycles eight hours cooling and twenty minutes while defrosting.
2) The defrost heater is turned on by the defrost timer. This will remove the frost from the evaporator coil.
3) Defrost termination switch (by-metal)  is a thermostat that shut the heater off at certain temperatures (depending on the refrigerator model).

Freon goes through the lines and builds up frost more than people think. A frost build up that will not get defrosted by the heaters that the timer trips will decrease the air flow to the fresh food section of the refrigerator part.

10 Steps to Help Refrigerators Live Longer

Every summer there are countless refrigerators that die unexpectedly. This is often due to the increase in temperature and the associated humidity. The following are a few suggestions to help your appliance make it through the next summer heat wave.

1. Don't use as an air conditioner. You may laugh, but this is particularly common with the elderly. They often leave the refrigerator door open in the hope of cooling the room. Or they may stand in front of the refrigerator trying to get cool themselves. A chair left sitting in front of the refrigerator is a sure sign.

2. Don't overload defrost system. Keep containers of water or juice sealed. Open containers of liquid will increase the amount of moisture deposited onto the cooling coil. This will cause the compressor to run longer. Run times of 16 hours per day are normal for refrigerators. Extra moisture could easily increase this to 20 hours per day.

3. Turn off icemaker. Icemakers will produce a harvest every four to six hours. This is more ice than most families can consume. All the exposed ice cubes will stress the refrigerator in hot weather. Turn off the icemaker until more is required. Depending upon the size of ice bucket, you will probably only need to turn it on every few days.

Put new ice cubes into a sealed container rather than leaving exposed in the ice bucket.

Have even seen a customer turn off icemaker and cover the ice bucket with plastic wrap. They left the front of bucket open enough to grab cubes when needed. Customer claimed this idea made ice cubes last longer, and refrigerator run less.

4. Doors not sealing properly. Gaskets full of holes or cracks allow warm air to enter. Or gaskets that are not clean may not seal properly. Clean surfaces with light detergent and warm water.

To test the gaskets use a dollar bill. While holding dollar bill against cabinet close door so that gasket seals. Pull the dollar bill out. It should have a resistance to being pulled out from under gasket. Use this method to test full perimeter. Resistance felt should be uniform around whole gasket.

5. Door warped. When the refrigerator door closes it should seal along its full length. If it seals at one point, but not another, the door itself may be warping out of alignment. This will need to be corrected by a service company. Until they get there try closing the door firmly (close hard, but don't slam shut). This will often force door to realign temporarily.

6. Don't overload. A standard refrigerator can accept about 50 pounds of new food per day. If you are overloading the food may appear not to cool properly. For example: Why add a whole case of warm soda to a refrigerator on a hot day. Add only what is required for that day. Add extra beverages just before bedtime. The refrigerator will have all night to cool them down.

7. Don't overload door shelves. Modern refrigerators can have extremely large door shelves that are easily overloaded. Heavy items such as glass bottles or large soda containers should be moved inside. The weight may be pulling the door away from the cabinet. This can cause the gasket to stretch until small openings appear at the corners of the gasket. Warm air can enter.

8. Teach children refrigerator etiquette. Children are notorious for standing in front of the freezer door trying to decide which treat to take. Even a few minutes with the door open can cause the refrigerator stress. Every time it is opened the cold air will roll out. As it rolls out the warmer room air will enter the refrigerators interior. This warm air invasion forces the appliance to run longer trying to produce more cold air.

9. Don't block air circulation. Remove bags, brooms, trays, etc, from the space between outside of refrigerator and surrounding walls. Refrigerator must be allowed to circulate air around itself. Blocking the airflow will cause the compressor to overheat. An overheated compressor can quickly burn out. If refrigerator temperature suddenly becomes erratic suspect the compressor is overworking.

10. Keep level. If not level the cabinet can go out of square. This is particularly important with newer refrigerators because they have very little internal bracing. If not properly leveled the cabinet can start to lean. This will affect door alignment and closing.

Doing the above will certainly help your refrigerator make it through the heat. The last suggestion is to simply keep your fingers crossed. Because, if Mother Nature decides to send us the full strength of her heat wave that is all that may save your refrigerator from joining the others in the great landfill in the sky.

Steam Or Dry Iron

Ironing is a fundamental part of clothes care and unless there is a really good iron to smoothen away the creases, and wrinkles that washing machines invariably inflict on our clothes our attire will be very shoddy and ill kempt. It is best to opt for the steam irons that are now so popular in the market. For one thing it has proved to be very fast and effective. The steam takes care to smoothen out the smallest wrinkle and the result is perfectly pressed and neatly folded lines of clothing. Even the best clothes can be marred by bad ironing and wrong creases.

There is a small 1 litre or 0.5litres to 2.5litre water tank inside the iron which gets heated up and offers a spray of steam for effective ironing. The water tank is removable and can be cleaned at intervals. The steam can be turned on and off depending on the kind of fabric one is ironing. For example, the lighter fabrics do not require the spray of steam while the heavier fabrics require it for the crinkle free look. The iron is designed in a way to be drip free and safe. Depending on the kind of fabric that you are ironing you can set the heating option and the temperature is automatically set just right for the kind of fabric you are ironing. When the temperature reaches a suitable point it automatically switches off.

There is no fear of over heating and damaging the fabric or under heating and struggling to press. If the water takes 4 minutes to prepare steam then the iron is ready to work non stop for 40minutes. Depending on each brand and make, approximately 50 to70grams of heat is generated in a minute. The cord connecting the iron the power peg is as lengthy as 1.7 metres. There is an embedded sole plate to make the iron retain its heat for a longer period. Generally about 2000watts of power is utilized.

Some brands offer 5 different heating positions for the convenience of the user. It is important to ensure that the iron is scale free if the clothes have to retain their pristine quality. The new anti scale system ensures that the sole is kept scale free for the smooth movement of the iron. Some irons heat up very fast, even in 2minutes and this makes the power consumption much less.

There are some irons which have a self cleaning mechanism. Unless one prefers the heavier kinds, a good iron will weigh about 1.15kgs which will not be very burdensome for the user even if he or she has piles and piles of clothes to iron.

Highlights of Dometic Refrigerator Parts

Today the refrigerator is one of the most common appliances in every home. Other than this, you find them in hotels, offices, restaurants and gyms. It provides the perfect option to store food supplies for an entire group of people. You can get different sizes from room sized large refrigerators to cabinet sized refrigerators. Each is dependent on the parts it runs on.

Benefits of the Dometic Refrigerator Parts

Once you find out about the Dometic refrigerator parts, you can understand their importance. They are invaluable when it comes to maintaining the freshness and nutrition of food. There are many refrigerators which function on an industrial level. Each has different features and therefore requires different parts. The parts offer reliable and affordable options.

Different Dometic Refrigerator Parts

The refrigerator is created out of a compartment which has thermal insulation. It also has a heat pump which extracts the heat from the appliance into the external environment. Any problem here will hamper the performance of your refrigerator. Fortunately, you can find Dometic Refrigerator parts to avoid dealing with a problem. Each parts serves a specific function in the cooling system. Some of the most important parts include refrigerant, evaporator, and heat exchanging pipes.

Refrigerant

One of the most integral parts of the cooling system of the refrigerator is the refrigerant. With the change in temperature, it changes from a gaseous form to liquid form. Earlier fridge models utilized fluorocarbons which are known as CFC's. These are detrimental to the environment. Today you will find most of the refrigerants made out of ammonia.

Evaporator

This plays the function of evaporating and absorbing the heat from the appliance. It is achieved with the use of the liquid evaporating refrigerant.

Heat Exchanging Pipes

You can see different coils surrounding the refrigerator back. These are the heat exchange pipes, which are used to transport the refrigerant throughout the unit.

In addition to these, there are some other Dometic refrigerator parts as well. For instance, made out of heavy metal a compressor is used to compress the refrigerant. The pressure of this refrigerant is raised by the use of a powered motor.

The bottom line is that a refrigerator may ask you to replace a part any time. This is when you can trust Dometic refrigerator parts, not only for their durability and affordability but also for their variety.

Dometic refrigerator parts are known for their durability and affordability. If you're looking for high quality refrigerator parts then visit http://www.dometicrefrigeratorparts.org. With domestic refrigerator parts, you'll be assured of a functional product and money well spent.

Emerson 2-Door Compact Refrigerator

I had a mini fridge in my room for a year and it broke so I replaced it with this Emerson one. I love it, the Freezer gets very very very cold, as well does the refrigerator part. You can store lots of things in it, and it even has its own storage compartment for fruits and cold cuts!

The refrigerator works well. Freezer section is unusually large for a compact fridge. Two drawbacks. Fridge came without the keys included for the doors. Emerson took a while but eventually came through with the keys for me. Overall, it's a good compact fridge.

The Steps in Building a Simple Fountain

A lot of people like the sound of flowing water especially in the garden. The sound of flowing water is one of the most soothing sounds we would like to hear and enjoy after working. A fountain can be made in three layers and even as high as eight feet. It can be small and simple or high and very complex. Making a simple fountain may be achieved in just five to six hours.

1. The first step on how to build a fountain that is simple is digging a hole in your garden that is at least four inches deeper than an ordinary bath tub. The hole should have a depth of two inches. You can use a pot made of rubber instead of the expensive pots made of ceramic.

2. The second step on how to build a fountain that is simple is placing the tub in the dug hole. Make sure that four inches of the rubber tub is stuck out from the soil.

3. The third step on how to build a fountain that is simple is filling the rubber tub with a lot of water.

4. The fourth step on how to build a fountain that is simple is putting sand on the area that surrounds the tub. This will hold the tub firmly on its place. You can also pour some water on it so the sand will stick well.

9. The ninth step is fastening the tubing to a clamp with the hose. Then put it upside down.

10. The tenth step is threading the tube through the pot's hole.

11. The eleventh step is putting the pump above the pot. Then plug it in till the pot gets filled with water.

12. The twelfth step is filling the sides with some soil and rocks.

Then plant some flowers on the soil. Then stack up some rocks on the spaces that are not filled with plants.

Check Out Emerson 2-Door Compact Refrigerator for $134.00

Emerson 2-Door Compact Refrigerator Review

I didn't dream I could get all the features I need in a small fridge for under 0 but this one did it! I'm temporarily in a situation where I live and sleep in one room of a house. I needed a full-sized freezer, a lock (I have roommates) and I needed it to run quietly since I sleep about five feet from it. Voila! This fridge does it all. The inside light, drink dispenser and glass covered bin were just extra features that made this the perfect fridge for me.

Like most compact refrigerators, items kept towards the back will stay the coldest. The thermostat is very responsive and it only took a few experimental tweaks to find the right balance.

The only DOWN side was the shipping. It was shipped from Target in nothing but the manufacturer's display box. There were deep dings on the edges of the fridge and one corner was crushed. Fortunately, the fridge works anyway, and nothing inside the refrigerator was broken. Although I'd love to have a ding-free item, I'm keeping it because it works fine and sending it back would be too much of a hassle.

I've had it running for a week now and despite the poor shipping, I love this fridge and am very happy with my purchase.

Perfect for the dorm - C. Moore - Gahanna, OH
I bought this for my son's college dorm room. The separate freezer is perfect for Popsicles, ice, or ice cream and gets cold very quickly. Other single door models have a very small freezer compartment/door flaps with very laughable (tiny) ice trays. Not so with this 2-door model which really echoes a full size refrigerator. The unit is very quiet and all of the motor is vented on the bottom which means you can safely position the back to a wall. This is very nice refrigerator and a an excellent value for the money. Amazon does it again, none of the local stores could touch this price.

Amazing fridge...amazing price! - M. Roberts -
Everything about this fridge is perfect. It keeps sodas ice cold, fruits perfect temp, and ice-cream frozen. I personally recommend keeping it on the setting 4 1/2. Any more and much of your stuff will explode and then freeze in the fridge.

There are a few drawbacks to this fridge though: 1. Mostly silent, but at night can get a little noisy
2. If you buy an appliance off line it will get damaged! I was
luckier than many with only a few small dents on the side

If these two minor setbacks are something that you can handle than this is the perfect two door refrigerator for you at an extremely great price.

good - Sweet & Savory -
You can purchase this through target, which may save you on shipping. They also have more reviews on there website than this one does. I ended up going to target. I asked them to open the package to make sure it wasn't damaged since most complained about this, the one I had didn't have any damage. This isn't real stainless steel, more of a look a like. It does have a lock, but my friend told me that you could go to the hardware store and buy the so called "key" (it's not a real key), so if you have a smart roommate this may not work. I like how it has 2 doors. The freezer gets cold. This is a little noisy. 1st off, I didn't keep this, b/c I found one similar that I liked better at walmart (SPT brand)--they have it on amazon as well, and i reviewed it on here. I think the soda holder can be a pro/con depending on if you have a use for it, I didn't. Doesn't hold a quarter of a gallon of milk unless you lay it on the side on the shelf or take the wire shelf out. I like the light inside.
